Welcome to the new home of WPFC!
Philosophy
We see a need for something with less financial and time commitment than the typical competitive soccer offering, but with better coaches and more ambition than the typical rec level team. We endeavor to create opportunity for players in Woodland Park.
We aim to raise the level of play of our existing teams primarily by developing the core group already within the Club while also attracting better and better players to supplement each age group. To this aim, we have created our Holos Training programs. These extra, à la carte programs run year-round and are a great fit for players and families that want more than the basic Anglers FC experience. The majority of Holos Training opportunities are in Colorado Springs, but we will explore some in Woodland Park over the coming seasons.
Age Groups
WPFC teams range for players 1st through 8th grade with the following age groups:
- 1st/2nd grade
- 3rd/4th grade
- 5th/6th grade
- 7th/8th grade
For players in 3rd through 8th grade, tryouts occur each May and establish teams for the following fall and spring seasons. Perceived player ability is the determining factor for which players make which teams. Some players may be referred to Parks & Rec if we cannot place them on a WPFC team in their age group. For players in 1st and 2nd grade, we will be working with Parks & Rec to come up with the best plan for Fall 2024.
Our heart is never to exclude, but rather to place players with others of similar skill levels; we believe this creates the best experience for everyone.
Travel
All practices will be in Woodland Park. Games are primarily in Colorado Springs, but could be as far as Cañon City, Pueblo, or South Denver. Games may be Friday evenings or Saturday mornings (no Sundays).
Equipment
For this spring, we will use the dark green Woodland Park FC jerseys one last time. Over the summer, all players continuing with WPFC will be expected to purchase the new kit.
The new kit will consist of two jerseys (green and white), black shorts, and black socks. The jerseys are the only articles that will be required to be purchased from our official apparel provider, Admiral Sports. Families may choose to either purchase Club shorts and socks or have players wear their own plain black shorts and plain black soccer socks.
For all practices, technical sessions, and games, players should bring a water bottle and their own soccer ball in the appropriate size for their age (1st-2nd grade: size 3 | 3rd-6th grade: size 4 | 7th-12th grade: size 5).
Supporters and Corporate Sponsors
We believe in providing valuable soccer experiences that families can actually afford. Rather than charging high prices, we operate as a nonprofit, crowdfunded organization. We could not fulfill our mission without a generous community of supporters and sponsors!
For those who have participated in competitive, travel soccer, you may be accustomed to paying large sums each season. Would you consider joining Anglers FC as a monthly supporter or giving a special gift?
If your business is interested in becoming a corporate sponsor, you can learn more here and email brendan@anglersfc.com.
